Tesla Shares Drop Ahead of Delayed Roadster Product Demonstration

Shares of Tesla, Inc. (TSLA) fell more than 2% to close at $367.16 on Wednesday, putting the electric vehicle maker on track for its worst weekly performance in nearly three months. The stock decline comes just ahead of a scheduled live product demonstration for the next-generation Roadster on Thursday at 7:55 p.m. Central time. The event was originally scheduled for early October but was delayed by two weeks due to adverse weather and high winds.

The upcoming demonstration arrives nearly nine years after Tesla first revealed the vehicle in late 2017. Despite repeated promises of extraordinary capabilities, production has been repeatedly pushed back, with recent company updates showing the vehicle remains in the design development stage without a fixed manufacturing site. Broader market pressure also weighed on the shares following a higher-than-expected inflation report that pushed up Treasury yields, alongside reports of a potential merger structure involving SpaceX.

Investors remain focused on whether the upcoming event will offer concrete timelines for production and commercial availability. Tesla, which is down roughly 18% year-to-date and trades at roughly 187 times expected earnings, is scheduled to report its third-quarter financial results after the market closes on Oct. 21.
