Sunshine Silver Targets 2028 Production Return as Mine Prep Progresses

Sunshine Silver Mining & Refining Company (SSMR) announced progress on its mine preparation, underground development, and site infrastructure work. The mining company expects to complete a formal feasibility study in the second quarter of 2027 and is aiming to restart full commercial production in late 2028.

During the first half of 2026, the company completed roughly 1,200 meters of underground development, with another 1,300 meters scheduled before year-end. Crews have also laid about 1,200 meters of underground rail track to bolster logistics and safety, with plans for 1,900 meters more. On the surface, demolition of an old processing mill that began in 2025 should wrap up by the end of 2026, freeing space for a new processing facility. The planned plant will handle approximately 1,000 tonnes per day initially, with capacity to upgrade to 2,000 tonnes per day.

Investors should monitor upcoming exploration and site milestones through the end of the year. The company has completed about 47,600 meters of a 50,000-meter infill drilling campaign as of September 30, 2026, and plans to release additional drilling data before 2027. It is also continuing shaft and hoist upgrades following the commissioning of a new production hoist at the Jewell Shaft earlier this year.
